Groups.

For my visual storytelling class, we work in groups to produce, well, commercials, kinda. Groups are temporary and switch from project to project, with the exception of our first project.

My team is solid. Two diverse writers, two dedicated art directors. Our first project bombed. We had a sex joke and didn't exactly follow directions. It was a result of failure to make a group decision.

Our next and final project together is looking brighter. We are all a bit more focused and wanting redemption. We met last night to create the shooting board and I think we are looking good. See page 1 below...

I am learning a hell of a lot at Adcenter. By far, one of the best experiences is the near-real world experience working in groups. Almost all our classes require some form of group work or collaboration. Some groups are permanent for the semester, others are temporary. I've heard a lot of horror stories about groups not communicating well and arguing. I have been lucky enough not to have a problem. I feel like I learn most about myself when working with others.

wow.

its been a while since i've blogged. i am not sure where to begin. school is insane. there is a lot of work, but mostly its like a real mind fuck and a test to endurance, creativity and communication.

we are blessed to have a great group in the program. on the bright side, there are a lot people here that i hope to know for the rest of my life. a lot people that remind me of friends back home. i am finally starting to feel comfortable. its been a while since i've been in the school setting and it feels good to be around so many creative people.

in other news, i had my first "welcome to richmond" crime story. it was about 130am when i heard the dogs barking in the yard, which usually means that someone is back there. i looked back to see a suspicious character. i dont think it is appropriate to go into detail over this blog, but the short of it is that it involved a gun and crack. no joke. ask me about it.

i have to admit, i miss home quite a bit, there is nothing like san francisco. i miss my girlfriend and friends, the weather, places, smells, things, life. i think i will walk away with a new appreciation for life.
