today was the first day in the new building and i must say, it felt good.
its funny how things like new shoes can really make you happy, not to say the material aspect of wearing them is everything, but you can't deny that new stuff can make your smile a few millimeters bigger than usual.
i think the new building really brought new energy into the school. i was talking to a friend about it. i was saying (jokingly, but not really) how i think it made everyone a little better looking. she pointed out that rest/sleep, food, and new hair cuts probably played a bigger role. maybe she's right, but regardless, it was great seeing everyone. i think second semester is when you start giving hugs more to people in your class and really feeling like you're part of something bigger.

in other news, cabel harris for advertising concept development seems like a winner! stoked for what's to come!
monsoons have hit san francisco. waves are 20+ feet high and 50+ mph wind is blowing rain vertically down my street... so i am left to my own devices.
i've decided to knock out some work that i have been putting off... i sometimes do flyer designs for a voice over talent agent. the work work is fun. it is usually just design stuff and involves laying type and pulling images that convey a certain requested feel. the headlines are given to me... here are a few comps that i like...

in other news, i am working on a revised look and feel for funkanometry. we have a show coming up in fall and i am masterminding a plan to create a preemptive campaign to inform the local public of who we are, so that we might convince some of the local public (that might not otherwise attend the show) to attend.
we are always low budget and go print, web, and viral. for this particular series, i was inspired by the work of (the late) famed sf adman howard gossage. we will be posting simple 8.5x11" B/W prints like the one below around coffee shops, studios, schools etc in sf. the campaign will ask the public what they want/expect to see at our show while telling them who the fuck we are and what we do. we will ask the reader to email their thoughts and ideas to us. the next of the series will be reactive to whatever people send... ie... headline..."thanks for sending your purple elephant idea mr. green, however i fear that they may be difficult to fit on stage." gossage pioneered interactive, before web was even invented. i think he may be my new american idol.
(notice we are not trying to "sell" anything. also the "funkanometrysf" tear tabs at the bottom. body copy is not final.)
we are also working on a revised press kit (thanks to friend and stellar writer, zoe bell and others for their continued help) (oh yea and i cannot forget sam hon, a close friend and AMAZING photographer, soon to be world famous, with work featured in the pages of rolling stone). the press kit is still in the making, but here are comps of the possible new business card...
