dreaming.
ok, so im a light sleeper to begin with, and it sucks THAT much more for me when i am awoken in the middle of the night. i have having the most amazing post-apocalyptic dream about conflicts of different "races" of people that develop after some crazy nuclear bombing. i mean literally, people LOOK different, like one race of people have these saber tooth tiger-like teeth. its crazy! think -- darwin-ism with guns.
so anyhow, im awaken by what i SWEAR are bunshots at like 2am. i hear about 5 rounds fired off then a siren shortly thereafter. i live in a pretty bad area so it doesnt seem out of the range of possibility.

big.
i had an amazing trip.
it could not have ended better. on my flight home i was sitting on the window seat of an exit row in a nearly empty plane. it was better than first class, it was economy-class-karma! the in flight movie was "penelope" with christina ricci, which was quite good for a modern day fairytale and MUCH better than "august rush" or "henry hears a who" or something of the like.
it started well, but i missed the ending because my attention was diverted to the thunder/lighting storm off in the near distance.
it was phenomenal.
i even tried taking pictures from my window, but the wing's light overpowered the lighting that was jumping from cloud to cloud at like .000001 seconds per.
now imma try not to get all blog-deep and introspective about it, but fuck... it was amazing! i felt like a six year old amused by bugs and fire again, sitting there watching the white and blue light illuminate the sky. it almost looked like a neo-nuclear holocaust or some obscure armageddon-like (sp) war taking place below.
anyhow, it made to remember (again) just how small we actually are in a world that has been flattened by the internet and the iphone. ya know? (here is where the long-jump of logic, that makes perfect sense to me, begins) it is just so strange to me. i mean people are basically rewarded when they are able to project a contained level of pretentious confidence... followed by those who aren't as able or willing to do so. i like to believe that i fall into the latter category. i am able but i'm not willing to submit. i might spend the rest of my life finding out if this serves me well or not, but by then it will have been too late... so i'll just have to be happy with my current decision.
... i'd never seen anything like it.

i found the answer.

im not embarrassed to admit that i LIKE SPAM. maybe its the hawaiian in me? but since i am not hawaiian, maybe its the filipino in me and since i am not filipino, maybe its the white trash in me. regardless, i like SPAM, but what i hated about it is that it comes in these huge cans that you really have to plan on eating with a small group or else subjected to stomach issues.
some smart guy in their r&d department decided that this (image above) would be a good idea and INDEED it is. they can charge a TON more for it (pound for pound) and how amazingly convenient! it beats sausage in the morning because sausage has the same storage problem. i;ve found that one of these babies can be chopped into 4 sausage sized bites. just fry, add a little soy sauce and sugar, DONE!
=====
in other unrelated, but equally important news... brooklyn brothers is sending me to canada for a shoot! yukon territory to be exact. im so effin excited and i've been practicing my "eh's" and "bouts"

the latest.
im not gonna lie, nyc is the best place on earth.
i think i might have had my best weekend yet here. drunken debauchery on friday followed by astoria pool with the guys + PS1 + a night at the worst bar ever, which surprisingly made for a really good time with some beautiful russian women.
man o man. how am i going to return back to RVA? i ask myself this question regularly.
**immediately after we took this pic the security guard yelled at at us called the cops because apparently you are not allowed to take pics at the public pool (probably for little kids and privacy etc).
**this is my rooftoop during sunset, if you could see to the right, there is a beautiful view of the manhattan skyline... just beyond the bushwick project housing complexes.
**yes, extreme nose bleed section, but good times none the less. i hear they are tearing down the stadium. glad to have seen it in all its glory -- peeling paint chips, asbestos and all.
============
i have been making a conscious effort to get back into music listening. it helps that i dont have a tv here, but i think i forget how good music can be. i have been listening to a lot of motown and a lot of new jack era r&b. its great for the summer. picture romping around in the city listening to any of all of these tracks...

=================
finally, i've also been diving deep into my after effects class. i love it! my teacher is amazing and AE has unlocked a whole new world for me in terms of media. im currently working on my first 2D animation. it is a long and tedious process of conception, making the art them programming, but well worth it when it is done.
here is my first sample. im making a music video of two birds singing "you are the sunshine of my life." i just finished creating the bird art, animating the suff is going to be the death of me. i think im going to make it a viral piece for sunmaid rasins and build a campaign around it.
its supposed to be a pigeon (guy) and a sparrow (girl)

make culture.
i must admit. this video and song is badass! i love the 3D cutout effect. which is an After Effect effect! something im learning right now. i love NERD, Pharrell, Julian Casablancas and Santagold! to top it all off, unless im mistaken, the converse campaign was done by Anomaly. great job at using advertising to make culture and keep it respectable and authentic.
i love it!

i really can't get enough of this campaign. it speaks to the target. it's smart, simple, fun, cool. it doesn't try too hard. it doesn't beat you over the head with the product. anomaly is my new personal hero.

forgive and forget

Joseph Ari Aloi, a.k.a. JK5 is the most amazing artist! when he is not working in the million other forms of media (that he is amazing at) he can be found at Saved Tattoo in Brooklyn and i want nothing more that to get a chest piece in this style script!
"forgive and forget"
in recognition of family issues. i emailed them today and will walk in this weekend. i have a feeling it will cost and arm and a leg and that he is booked through the next dodec-ia.
fingers crossed.
